I was born in Houston, Texas in November 1957,
the second of four children of Roy and Nancy (Lalu) Kiesling. My
mother's family traced its ancestry to colonial times, and includes a hero
of the war of Texas independence. My paternal great great
grandfather arrived from southeastern Germany in 1854, part of a migration
of Wends (or Sorbs, German Slavs).
We moved to Palo Alto, California in 1960, and to Los Altos in 1965.
My older sister Eugenia C. Kiesling (Jennie) teaches military history
at West Point. My younger brother Stephen is the editor of Spirituality
and Health Magazine. My youngest brother Roy III is in the
biotech business in the Bay Area. |
